The WJEC Eduqas GCE AS in Chemistry course offers students a strong foundation in chemistry, developing both theoretical knowledge and practical skills.
The course covers essential topics in chemistry such as atomic structure, chemical bonding, organic chemistry, and reaction rates. Students will gain hands-on experience through practical work and learn to apply mathematical skills in solving chemical problems.
Knowledge Development: Students explore the structure of matter, chemical reactions, and the connections between different chemistry topics.
Practical Skills: The course emphasizes practical experiments and scientific investigations to strengthen problem-solving and data analysis abilities.
Mathematical Skills: Learners will develop proficiency in chemical calculations, stoichiometry, and thermodynamics.
Application to Society: Students will also consider how chemistry impacts society, industry, and the environment, including ethical issues.
Atomic Structure & Bonding: Understanding atoms, chemical bonds, and the periodic table.
Chemical Calculations: Using the mole concept and stoichiometry to solve reaction problems.
Organic Chemistry: Studying hydrocarbons, alcohols, acids, and halogenoalkanes.
Acid-Base Reactions & Equilibrium: Exploring reversible reactions, pH, and equilibrium constants.
The course is assessed through two 1.5-hour exams (50% each), which test both theoretical knowledge and practical skills. Practical activities, including titrations and reaction rate studies, are also assessed.
This AS Chemistry course prepares students for further studies in chemistry or related fields, fostering curiosity and a deeper understanding of the subject.
